MISSION STATEMENT

The Urban Community Action Network (UCAN), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (IRS tax ID #88-3420796), is dedicated to empowering individuals who have recently been released from incarceration to overcome the challenges of reintegration and build self-sufficient and fulfilling lives. Our comprehensive After Care Reentry Program offers counseling, vocational training referrals, job placement assistance, and access to essential resources, equipping participants with the tools they need to successfully navigate their reentry journey.

At UCAN, we understand the unique challenges faced by individuals returning to society after incarceration. Through our After Care Reentry Program, we provide personalized support to address their emotional, vocational, and practical needs. Our counseling services guide participants in processing their experiences, developing positive coping mechanisms, and fostering personal growth. We connect them with vocational training referrals and job placement assistance, empowering them to acquire the skills and resources necessary for meaningful employment and financial stability. Additionally, we ensure that participants have access to essential resources, including housing, healthcare, and social support, to support their holistic well-being.

We recognize that behavioral issues can hinder successful reintegration, which is why we offer specialized programs to address them. Our Anger Management Classes empower individuals to understand and manage their anger, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and cultivate peaceful conflict resolution skills, enabling them to avoid confrontations and maintain positive relationships. Through our Domestic Violence Intervention program, we provide counseling to perpetrators of domestic violence, working towards breaking the cycle of abuse and fostering safer homes and communities. Our D.U.I. Groups offer guidance and education to individuals who have faced Driving Under the Influence charges, promoting responsible decision-making and road safety. Our Substance Use Disorder Groups provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals struggling with substance abuse, offering education, resources, and a network of support to aid in their recovery journey.

UCAN's Gang Intervention Program is specifically designed to guide formerly gang-involved individuals away from violence and crime. We redirect their lives towards education, employment, and community engagement, empowering them to become positive contributors to society. Through our Intensive Case Management program, we provide personalized and comprehensive support to individuals with complex needs, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance, including housing, healthcare, and ongoing support, to overcome barriers and achieve stability.

We believe in the transformative power of family bonds, which is why our Parenting After Incarceration Groups focus on supporting formerly incarcerated parents. These groups equip parents with the necessary skills to rebuild strong family connections, nurture positive relationships with their children, and create a supportive and loving environment for their families to thrive.

UCAN's commitment to community welfare extends to our Community Street Outreach program, where we provide basic essentials, including food, clothing, and hygiene products, to the homeless population. By fostering compassion, instilling hope, and addressing immediate needs, we strive to uplift and support individuals facing adversity, fostering a sense of community and empowerment.

Through our evidence-based programs, personalized support, and collaborative approach, UCAN is dedicated to empowering individuals, strengthening families, and creating safer and more inclusive communities. We are driven by a deep belief in the potential of every individual, and we remain committed to breaking cycles of incarceration, promoting healing, and transforming lives through compassion, education, and empowerment.
